Mayor Kraham Announces No Fees For City Pools

Binghamton’s Pools, Carousels To Open For Summer This Weekend

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Thursday announced the City is ending fees for its public swimming pools, which open for the summer this weekend.

Kraham - First Carousel Ride 2022.05.26 - CROP“For decades, Binghamton’s parks have provided young people and residents of all ages with safe, fun ways to spend their summer months,” said Mayor Kraham. “By removing the small fees the City has historically charged for use of public pools, we’re making it easier for families to enjoy all Binghamton’s parks have to offer.”

Mayor Kraham made the announcement at Recreation Park, where he joined students from Horace Mann Elementary School for the first carousel ride of the season, an annual tradition.

The pools at Recreation Park, Cheri A. Lindsey Park Memorial Park, Webster Street Park and Fairview Park, and the spray pad at Columbus Park, will open for the season Saturday, May 28. The small pool at MacArthur Park will open Saturday, June 4.

The City’s carouselslocated at Recreation Park and Ross Parkwill also open for the season this weekend. The carousels are free of charge.

In past years, the City charged up to 50 cents per person for admission to its public pools. The fee was waived in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.

Legislation to amend the 2022 fee schedule and remove swimming pool fees went to City Council at the May 16 work session and will be voted on at the next business meeting.
