Mayor Kraham Announces Parking Ticket Amnesty Program
City Will Temporarily Waive Late Fees on Unpaid Parking Tickets
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)—Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Tuesday announced the City will temporarily waive late fees on unpaid parking tickets as part of an amnesty program running November 15 through December 31.
Mayor Kraham said: "For anyone with unpaid parking tickets in the City of Binghamton, this is a great chance to clean up outstanding fines and avoid paying extra in late penalties. It's also an opportunity for the City to bring in additional revenue by collecting more of what's owed in unpaid parking fines."
During the amnesty period, the total cost of any parking ticket issued in the City of Binghamton prior to November 25, 2024 may be paid at the initial fine rate. Late fees and penalties will be waived.
Additional New York State surcharges, such as fees for illegally parking in a space reserved for people with disabilities, are not forgiven.
The City of Binghamton collected roughly $438,000 in parking ticket revenue last year.
As of mid-October, there were approximately 3,480 unpaid parking tickets in the City of Binghamton and about $195,400 owed to the City in unpaid fines.
The City last offered a parking ticket amnesty program in 2020. During the one-month amnesty period in 2020, the City collected approximately $66,500 in parking ticket revenue.
