Mayor Kraham Announces Clinton Street Downtown Revitalization Local Planning Committee
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)—Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Thursday announced members selected to serve on the City of Binghamton's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Local Planning Committee (LPC) for the Clinton Street Neighborhood Business District.
"The Clinton Street corridor has incredible potential, and the Local Planning Committee brings together voices and expertise needed to turn that potential into real progress. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine one of Binghamton's most historic business districts, and I'm confident this group will help guide a plan that reflects the community's vision and delivers lasting investment for the First Ward."
The Local Planning Committee is a group of local stakeholders appointed by the State—including residents, small business owners, community leaders and government officials—who will work with state planners and consultants to create a Strategic Investment Plan for the Clinton Street corridor.
The LPC will be co-chaired by Mayor Jared M. Kraham and Kathryn Connerton, President and CEO of Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. LPC members also include:
- Mary Ann Callahan, First Ward Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and Binghamton City School Board member
- Jenny Chang, Executive Director, Broome County Arts Council
- Mackenzie Cooper, Binghamton University MPA Student
- Stacey Duncan, Executive Director and CEO of The Agency and Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce
- Jason Kovarik, Kovarik Hardware
- Alecia Lashier, iA (Innovation Associates)
- Carla Murray, Binghamton City Council, 1st District
- Ely Rooney, Entrepreneur and First Ward advocate
- John Rozzoni, Tri-Cities Opera Executive Director
- Mary Beth Smith, Boys and Girls Club Executive Director
- Frank Stento, Binghamton-Oneonta Building and Construction Trades Council
- Jerry Willard, First Ward Action Council Executive Director
As part of their role, LPC members will help to create a detailed profile of the neighborhood, refine the vision that was included in the City's DRI application and work to identify projects that align with the vision. They will review project proposals, provide critical feedback, and ensure the plan reflects the community's priorities and strategies that support long-term revitalization of the Clinton Street Neighborhood District.
The first meeting of the LPC will be held May 19th, 3:00pm, at the First Ward Senior Center.
In February New York State announced the City of Binghamton as the winner of round 8 of the DRI, awarding $10 million in grant funding to be used to revitalize the Clinton Street Neighborhood Business District. For more information, and to sign up for updates, visit:
