Mayor Kraham Kicks Off $8.6 Million Neighborhood Street Improvement Plan

2025 Work Includes Fresh Pavement, New Sidewalks and Updated Water, Sewer Lines for Dozens of Neighborhood Streets

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)—Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Thursday visited construction crews on Rotary Avenue to announce details of the City's 2025 neighborhood street improvement plan.

Mayor Kraham said: "We're continuing to invest in Binghamton's neighborhoods and build the infrastructure of our future. This year's street improvement plan includes new pavement, curbs and sidewalks for neighborhoods across the City, as well as critical upgrades to water and sewer lines that keep our drinking water safe and help protect against flooding. These investments are helping deliver a better quality of life for residents and supporting the good-paying construction jobs that drive a strong economy."

The City's approximately $8.6 million infrastructure improvement plan for this year includes:

• Milling and paving more than 40 streets, estimated at $1.5 million
• Water, sewer and stormwater upgrades, estimated at $6.4 million
• Curb and sidewalk upgrades, including ADA-accessible ramps, estimated at $684,000

Upon completion of the 2025 construction season, more than 150 streets across Binghamton will have been milled and paved during Mayor Kraham's time in office.

The City uses a pavement rating technology called RoadBotics to help identify infrastructure priorities and develop annual street improvement plans. RoadBotics uses artificial intelligence to assess the condition of every street.

Among the dozens of streets to be milled and paved this season are Baxter Street, Howard Avenue, Mozart Street, Rotary Avenue and Spring Lane.

The work is funded by a combination of Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) grant funding, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and local capital bond.
