Mayor Kraham Invites Community Members to First Public Workshop on Clinton Street Revitalization

City to Collect Input on Plans for $10M Grant Award

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)—Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Monday invited community members to attend the first public workshop on plans to revitalize Clinton Street since the City's $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant award was announced earlier this year.

The workshop will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 5:30pm at the First Ward Senior Center at 226 Clinton Street.

Mayor Kraham said: "Wednesday's public meeting is a chance for residents to learn more about the Clinton Street revitalization efforts and share their vision for the future of Binghamton's First Ward. This $10 million grant from New York State represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reimagine Clinton Street and unlock its full potential. I'm encouraging residents to join us and be part of building a better Binghamton."

Wednesday's public workshop will include an overview of the DRI program and an interactive component to solicit the community's input on the needs, challenges and opportunities in the district.

The workshop will also introduce the DRI grant application process. Business owners, property owners, non-profit leaders and community members are encouraged to attend to learn how to prepare for the upcoming open call for project applications.

Prior to the public workshop, the DRI's Local Planning Commission (LPC) will hold its second meeting starting at 3pm at the First Ward Senior Center. LPC meetings are open to the public.

In February, the City of Binghamton was named the Southern Tier winner of New York State's DRI, securing a $10 million grant award. The funds will support the transformation of the Clinton Street Neighborhood Business District into a vibrant, mixed-use corridor fostering small business growth, housing, arts and culture.

Mayor Kraham announced shortly after taking office that the City would apply for DRI funding to revitalize Clinton Street. He convened a group of First Ward residents, small business owners, non-profit leaders and other stakeholders to begin building a vision for the historic commercial corridor in support of the application.
