Mayor Kraham Announces Open Call for Projects Through Clinton St. Downtown Revitalization Initiative

Community Invited to Submit Project Proposals for Funding From $10M State Award

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Tuesday announced the launch of the funding application process for the Clinton Street Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), inviting local businesses, property owners, non-profit leaders and community groups to submit project proposals for funding through the City's $10 million State grant award.

Mayor Kraham said: "The Clinton Street corridor is a vital gateway into the City and a key piece of Binghamton's future. With this DRI funding, we have an opportunity to spark new investment, support small businesses and build on the momentum already underway in the neighborhood. We're calling on the community to bring forward proposals for projects that will help shape the next chapter for Clinton Street."

On Tuesday, the City's Local Planning Committee (LPC) issued a call for project proposals from the public for potential projects to be included in the Clinton Street DRI Strategic Investment Plan.

The plan will provide a roadmap for the State's $10 million investment, identifying catalytic projects to spur revitalization in the Clinton Street area.

Possible project proposals may include building renovations, new construction, historic preservation, business expansion support and other capital projects within the Clinton Street DRI boundary.

To be considered, projects must be ready for implementation and support the program's goals of economic development, improved public spaces, and enhanced quality of life for residents and visitors.

Proposals will be reviewed by the LPC, a group of local stakeholders appointed by the State and composed of residents, small business owners, community leaders and government officials. The LPC, with input from the public, will recommend successful submissions to the State for funding.

In February, the City of Binghamton was named the Southern Tier winner of New York State's DRI, securing a $10 million grant award to revitalize Clinton Street.

Mayor Kraham had convened a group of First Ward residents, small business owners, non-profit leaders and other stakeholders shortly after taking office to begin building a vision for the historic commercial corridor in support of the City's DRI application.

Individuals interested in submitting proposals for funding through the DRI should have projects that have a clear public benefit and align with the community's vision for a revitalized Clinton Street. Applicants must demonstrate commitment of private funding sources and discuss the project's transformative nature and potential community benefits. New ideas are encouraged, along with established project concepts.

Interested applicants should visit www.clintonstreetdri.org/open-call to access the submittal forms, review the Clinton Street DRI boundary and see additional guidance.

An informational webinar is scheduled for Thursday, July 17 at 5:30pm Interested individuals can sign up here.

Project proposals are due by 5pm on Friday, August 15.
