The City of Binghamton has been awarded $10 million as the Southern Tier winner of Round 8 of New York State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). This significant investment will support the transformation of the Clinton Street Neighborhood Business District (CSNBD) in the First Ward into a vibrant, mixed-use corridor that fosters small business growth, housing, arts, and culture.

The DRI is a cornerstone of New York State's economic development strategy, aiming to revitalize downtown neighborhoods into dynamic communities that promote economic growth, environmental sustainability, and a high quality of life. To date, over $1 billion has been committed to downtown revitalization through the DRI and its sister program, New York Forward.

Next Steps

With funding secured, the City of Binghamton will initiate a community-driven planning process to identify and prioritize transformative projects within the Clinton Street Neighborhood. A Local Planning Committee (LPC), comprising community leaders, business owners, and stakeholders, will guide this process in collaboration with state agency partners and planning consultants.

Over the coming months, there will be opportunities for public input to help shape the final slate of projects recommended for DRI funding. The LPC will develop a Strategic Investment Plan that aligns with the community's vision for the area, focusing on projects that enhance the neighborhood's appeal and functionality.
